Central government should refrain from permanently imposing dictatorial anti-Punjab rulings: Harpal Singh Cheema
Harpal Singh Cheema, Punjab’s finance and planning minister, said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central government was adopting a dictatorial attitude and continuously imposing its anti-Punjab rulings. And if they did not abstain, then the Aam Aadmi party and the government of Punjab would fight until the Parliament. He said that the people of Punjab will never allow the central government’s plans to end Punjab’s participation in the administration of Chandigarh, the University of Punjab and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Harpal Singh Cheema voiced these views while addressing reporters at the party headquarters here on Monday and AAP State General Secretary Harchand Singh Burst was also present with him.
Harpal Singh Cheema alleged: “The traditional ruling parties led by Congress and BJP in the Center have always treated Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat as mothers because Congressmen, Badals and BJP members of the Punjab have always surrendered before center decisions.” Since the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab under Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann, the Narendra Modi government in the Center has escalated its attacks on Punjab’s rights. The Modi government has long been implementing decisions to abolish Punjab’s share in the administration of Punjab University, BBMB and Chandigarh and now Union Home Minister Amit Shah has decided to remove Punjab service rules in Chandigarh administration and implement central service rules. The verdict is one of coercion and dictatorship, which is a grand conspiracy against the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab. »
Cheema said that the Modi government has neither spoken to the Punjab government nor has any such request been made by the employees regarding the removal of the Punjab service rules from the Chandigarh administration. He is implementing anti-Punjab decisions as part of a grand conspiracy as the BJP is now threatened by the AAP in Gujarat and other states after Punjab. The Modi government is abrogating the agreements and rulings of the Punjab Reorganization Act 1966 which go against state rights and the federal structure. He said the BJP government is now dreading the success of the Aam Aadmi party, exemplified by the last-minute order issued by the Modi government to cancel the upcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that the previous Congress and SAD-BJP governments of Punjab failed to protect the rights and share of the state like during the Congress and SAD-BJP governments where officials and employees of the Punjab had been dismissed from the administration of Chandigarh. Punjab’s participation in an institution like BBMB has been reduced. Cheema said the Punjab government will take all necessary measures to uphold the rights of the state. Legal steps would be taken to maintain Punjab’s stake in Chandigarh and BBMB.
