Dysfunctional local government

We invariably repeat the same string that the local organs of government in Pakistan are modeled on the British model. In their composition and function, they differ enormously from each other at the local level.

British local government has reached the pinnacle of prosperity. He succeeded in embellishing and improving conservative policies. For example, the health services organized by local authorities in England are far superior to those which exist in our country. Our local agencies are far behind their British counterparts in providing maternity and child protection services.

The Pakistani government does not pay attention to education in the slums. According to Article 25A of the 1973 constitution of Pakistan, education is the basic right of people. Needless to say, around 22 million children are out of school due to soaring poverty and soaring inflation. Ironically, this number of students can reach an alarming level. Moreover, the local government of the country is also dysfunctional in paying attention to unsanitary slums.

Currently, Pakistan is going through a horrible and hostile situation. The floods wreaked havoc across the country. At this critical moment, the health of the population is at stake and the government is in a deep sleep. It is time for the local government to administer the best possible treatment to the unhealthy people who are carriers of precarious and deadly diseases like colds, coughs and dengue fever.

Local authorities in Pakistan must work properly in order to prevent health crises and academic crises. The provincial government, with the help of the central government, should pay attention to issues of public health, sanitation, medical assistance, education and housing.
