Local Government Minister Wendy Tuckerman said the awards recognize innovative projects and outstanding work by councils and council staff across the state.

“I’m so proud of the work done every day in the local government sector and it’s wonderful to see so many outstanding and innovative projects highlighted during the 2022 Local Government Week Awards,” said Ms Tuckerman.

“Councils are at the heart of daily life in NSW communities and the Local Government Week Awards are an opportunity to highlight the important work they do.

“I would like to congratulate all the winners who have gone above and beyond for their communities.

The ‘Know Your Area’ strategy has encouraged residents to understand the urban and rural areas of the LGA and stay abreast of proposed changes for a clear, consistent and regional development framework.

A key part of the strategy was the community consultation, which started on August 30 last year and ended on January 28, 2022.

The community consultation session included face-to-face meetings at Tea Gardens, Bulahdelah, Stroud and Gloucester, telephone meetings, online surveys and email feedback.

The draft Rural Strategy that resulted from the Know Your Area initiative sets out a proposed framework for clear and consistent land use and planning principles to sustainably manage land use and water resources in outside the towns and villages of the region.

The Board has received and considered the comments, and a report is to be presented to the Board prior to adoption of the Plan.
