One of These 3 Designers Could Transform Madison’s Lakefront | local government

A 13-member special committee has chosen three finalists in a plan to reshape the Monona Lake waterfront between Olin Park and Williamson Street.

You might recognize some of the great projects that these companies have transformed.

The idea of ​​Lake Monona is to better connect neighborhoods and residents to the lake, improve water quality, and preserve the cultural history of the lake. The objective is a family sector and better use of the lake.

These finalists will produce preliminary plans and a preferred plan is expected to be chosen in September 2023.

Landscape + Development Agency







Sarasota Bay

According to her proposal, Agency Landscape + Planning is a small, women-owned business in Cambridge, Mass. with experience in landscape architecture, urban planning and community engagement, with 22 designers, landscapers and planners. The agency’s mission stated that it is dedicated to “social equity, cultural vitality and environmental resilience”.

The proposal was made in partnership with other companies, including MSR Design, whose projects include renovations to Madison’s Main Public Library, the Madison Municipal Building and the new Madison Public Market.

The Agency’s waterfront projects include the Sarasota Bay Park, dock park in Nashville, Albina Vision Community Investment Plan in Portland and the White River Vision Plan in Indianapolis.

This nationally renowned design firm describes itself as renowned for its strong contemporary design. Their work includes projects for large cities as well as small detailed designs. Their key partners in the proposal (MSA, Toole Design Group, Quinn Evans, Anchor QEA and CCS) have local offices and extensive experience on Wisconsin projects.

Field operations projects include Raisedh Line on the West Side of Manhattan. The park was built on a reclaimed historic elevated railway line.

Other projects include work on the revitalization Navy wharf in Chicago. The company also designed recently opened Presidio Tunnel in San Francisco and spearheaded the master plan for 1.5 miles of the Central waterfront in Seattle.

The company is based in Boston but has offices in Denver, Shanghai and New York. It has grown into a firm of over 300 practitioners. He stated in his proposal that it has existed for more than 65 years and that 300 professionals collaborate. The agency says it reinterprets public space “for continued economic contribution, civic amenity, ecological and environmental sustainability, and creative programming.”

Sasaki’s notable projects include the Chicago River Walk and the Chicago Riverside Think Tankthe Smale Riverside Park in downtown Cincinnati and Tom Hanafan Riverside Park in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The design stated that it “would work to weave the Monona Lake waterfront into the fabric of the city. To do this, we will plan and build an iconic civic park that anticipates the future needs of the community while maintaining the recreational aspects that work well for residents today.
