Stalin: Tamil Nadu’s fuel tax will automatically decrease with central government cut, says CM MK Stalin | News from Coimbatore

SELLIAMPALAYAM (SALEM): Chief Minister MP Stalin said that whenever the central government reduces taxes on petrol and diesel, the state tax on them will also automatically decrease.
“With the central government reducing excise duties on Saturday, the price of petrol has come down by Rs 9.50 and diesel by Rs 7,” Stalin said at a town hall meeting in Selliampalayam near Attur on Tuesday. evening. The meeting was organized to celebrate the completion of one year of DMK government in the state.
“Of the reduced excise duty, the central government share is Rs 8 on petrol and Rs 6 on diesel while the state government share is Rs 1.50 and Rs 1 respectively. It is therefore wrong to say that only the central government has reduced the tax on fuel,” the chief minister said.
“The state government suffered a loss of Rs 1,160 crore by reducing the price of petrol by Rs 3 per liter shortly after taking power,” he said.
“Although I would say this is a loss of revenue in the administrative parlance of the government, it is really a rebate of Rs 1,160 crore given to the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said. -he adds.
Stalin asked the BJP-led central government to explain why its petrol tax had risen to 27.90 rupees per liter from 9.48 rupees in May 2014 when he arrived in power.
“By this, the Center has increased its petrol tax by Rs 19.9 in eight years. Thus, they have reduced only Rs 8 from the already increased tax of Rs 19.9. They should reduce further excise duties,” he said. The central government did not raise fuel prices in recent parliamentary elections held in five states, including Uttar Pradesh.
Tamil Nadu had yet to secure Rs 21,760 crore from the central government, he said, adding that despite the financial burden, the DMK government had implemented programs for the welfare of the people.
Attacking former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Stalin said Pollachi’s sexual harassment case, Thoothukudi’s dismissal, Kodanad estate murder and robbery case were the painful achievements of his government.
He said he announced projects worth Rs 917 crore in Salem district during his recent visits.
Listing the achievements of the HR&CE department, Stalin said the department recovered ₹2,500 crore of temple land from the invaders.
Earlier, Stalin released water by opening the locks of Stanley Reservoir at Mettur. Following continuous rains in its catchments in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Mettur Dam received abundant water, raising the water level to 117.76 feet from 108 feet (May 15) .
“At first, 3,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water will be released and it will be further increased to 10,000 cusecs,” a PWD official said. He said the amount of water released would be further increased in the coming days depending on the needs in the delta region.
Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan and Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru were also present.
The chief minister said nearly 4.97 lakh acres of fertile land in the delta districts would benefit from Mettur’s water.
It is for the first time since Independence that water is released from the Mettur dam in May.
Usually the water is released from the dam on June 12 every year.
