The central government intends to turn 3 sections into national highways

The regional office of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in Guwahati has written a letter to Sikkim regarding the declaration of three national roads as National Highways (NH).

In a letter to the Chief Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) Sikkim, it was claimed that “the proposal for declaring the following national roads to national highways is under consideration in the ministry: Manpur-Nayabazaar- Legacy; Nayabazaar-Daramdin Sombaria-Soreng-Kaluk Bermoik-Dentam-Uttarey-Chiwabhanjyang; and Rangpo-Pachak-Mamjay-Dickling-Pakyong.

Responding to the same, CM Confidential Secretary – Bikash Basnett said, “Under the pragmatic leadership of CM PS Golay, the declaration of three national roads as national roads is under consideration at the Ministry of Road Transport and Indian Government Highways. The ministry informed PWD, Sikkim to submit the project details for the roads. »

The subject of the letter reads: “Reference from the Prime Minister’s Office”, implying that it was notably ordered by the Prime Minister’s Office.

In addition, the state government was also asked to submit project-specific information, such as the total length of the road and lane configuration, the most recent traffic survey data and supporting documents, an estimate of the cost of upgrading to national highway standard (civil works and land acquisition), the importance of Stretch in terms of strategy/tourism, and a legible map showing the route.

It should be noted that the Chief Minister of Sikkim – Prem Singh Tamang has repeatedly informed that “West Sikkim will be a tourist corridor, we are trying to convert the western district into a business corridor by linking the western Sikkim to Nepal via Chewbhanjyang, there will also be a national road connecting Nepal.

In addition, the Chief Minister of Sikkim has launched a massive stay-at-home project in Soreng and neighboring areas.

Meanwhile, the Ramam Check Post Foreigners Registration Office has already started operating, allowing travelers to travel directly from Sikkim to Darjeeling.
