The central government is pro-farmer but pro-industry
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Wednesday that the BJP-led central government was “pro-farmer but pro-industry”.
“Our government is farmer-friendly but industry-friendly. We make sure that industries move forward and keep going. Indian companies never cheat when sourcing. Our character is to maintain quality,” Mr. Mandaviya speaking at the investor summit.
The theme of the summit is “Opportunities and Partnerships in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices”.
The Union Minister further said that when the first wave of COVID-19 hit, the world did not have COVID-19 drugs.
“We have not only brought our own situation under control, met our own drug needs, but we have also supplied drugs to over 150 countries. This is our commitment,” he said.
“Today India is the largest manufacturer and supplier of generic drugs. We believe in ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. We make sure the world gets affordable drugs,” he added.
The PLI for Pharmaceuticals launched with an expenditure of Rs 15,000 crore generated considerable interest with around 278 companies applying to be considered under the program.
This summit will encourage investors looking to build global champions in India in these products.
It should be recalled that 13 companies were already selected under the PLI for medical devices program earlier this year, which will support their investment in improving domestic manufacturing of the targeted devices.
The sessions will also cover funding for the burgeoning startup ecosystem, and will end with a session on providing full facilitation to selected applicants under the PLI programs on Soft Grounding Investments.
